INTRODUCTION HCI Steel Building Systems began manufacturing Pre-engineered steel buildings over twenty years ago. During this time the company has grown to become a major contender in the steel building industry, selling to selected contractors, in the United States, Canada and the Pacific Rim. In 2001, HCI spent several million dollars to increase its production capacity, delivery capabilities and sales volume. This desired increase in sales volume necessitates a major change in HCI’s marketing philosophy while at the same time creating a unique business opportunity with minimal investment for a select group of professional contractors to become Authorized HCI Builders in their respective areas. HCI, through Builder Workshops and guidance from professional District Managers, will provide the Authorized Builder with ongoing training in all phases of product knowledge, selling, erection, construction, and business management. HCI’s national advertising provides sales leads for its Authorized Builders within their marketing area. HCI will also participate with the builder in local advertising to promote the Builder and HCI products. Opportunities to participate in Industrial, Commercial and Institutional projects become available to the Authorized Builder because of HCI’s quality certifications from AISC-MB, ICBO, the CWB Los Angeles County and others. This coupled with HCI’s leading edge technology and equipment provide a distinct advantage to the HCI Authorized Builder. The Authorized Builder is also backed by a team of knowledgeable, dedicated engineers and project managers at the factory who will work with you from the initial inquiry through completion of the project. BUILDER QUALIFICATIONS A typical HCI Authorized Builder is an established independent contractor known in the local area for his integrity, dedication and quality workmanship. The Authorized Builder specializes in Commercial, Industrial and Public Works projects and is comfortable in working with owners and design professionals. Design Build projects constitute a significant portion of the Authorized Builders sales so that the ability to prepare Perspectives, Proposal Drawings and Detail Drawings for permits and construction is essential. These can be done either in house or outsourced. The ability to erect buildings with his own crew supplemented by qualified outside erectors when needed is another important factor. Marketing & Advertising The Authorized Builder and his HCI District Manager formulate a sales forecast and marketing plan suitable for the area. The HCI District Manager will then work with the Authorized Builders staff in areas of product knowledge and sales strategy to assure the achievement of predetermined goals. A consistent, professional ongoing marketing program is the cornerstone of long term success and HCI will participate with the Authorized Builder in sharing some specific costs. Conclusion HCI recognizes that its success is directly linked to the success of its Authorized Builders; thus a long term relationship with mutual benefits is essential.
